Скоро собираюсь уезжать в Америку. Подскажите,пожалуйста,реально ли найти работу бухгалтера или помощником бухгалтера. В Москве я работаю главным бухгалтером, закончиа курсы международной бухгалтерии в системе GAAP, английский пока на среднем уровне, но я его усиленно учу, у меня диплом инженера.Есть ли у меня какие-то шансы найти работу или придется ходить на курсы или даже поступить в колледж?
У кого есть какой-то опыт -поделитесь.

Hi Diana,
I think you'll be OK wih finding a job as a bookkeeper or accountant. Bookkeeping is generally much easier here compare to that in Russia (not so many regulations). I see two ways how one can start a career as an accountant:
1. You can try to find a job with a small company as a bookkeeper or accountant assistant. Usually small companies has one or two accountants/bookkeepers who post all everyday transactions in some kind of accounting system (most small businesses use either Quickbooks or Peachtree - both are very similar to 1C). Believe me, you don't need to be very experienced or knowledgable in GAAP to do this job (I started without any experience at all at the company with 10M annual sales and did fine after 1-2 month of training). The biggest obstacle here - finding a company that will hire you without any experience. May be you can try do find some internship for 3-4 month (it depends on your financial situation, of course, whether you can afford it). You may also try some russian companies (was my case).
2. You can try to apply for a position of a staff accountant with some large company (sometimes those positions are refered to as a data entry). Look for an entry-level positions (they'll train you anyway). Companies offering that kind of job will likely look for a Bachelor or AA degree in accounting related field, not for experience. (May be you'll need to do evaluation of your diploma).
In my personal opinion it's better to work for a small company, since you'll be learning different bookeeping operations. Working for a large company on entry-level I'd expect to input into some computer system the same type of document 8 hours a day.
Financial side:
Here, in San Francisco, you can expect to get 9-12 / hour for entry-level position with little or no experience. Bookeeper with 1-3 years of experiense in a small business can almost always find a position for 15-19/ hour. I don't have information of what they pay in large companies, but it should be about the same.
A note:
20-23$/hour is about a limit even for a very experienced bookeeper, so that job won't make you rich. If you want to progress further, look for becoming a CPA (Certified Public Accountant).

На работу в крупной компании я пока не претендую , а вот устроиться в небольшую фирму было бы хорошо., пускай на маленькое количество часов,зато здесь, действительно, можно будет получить какой-то опыт. Я знаю, что в американских компаниях , которые работают в России бухучет ведут в двух системах : в российских стандартах, а также в системе GAAP. А как в Америке, если это российская компания, тоже надо знать российское законодательство или достаточно американского .
Я так поняла, что если в будущем мне придется эвальюировать свой диплом, то надо будет предоставить приложение с количеством пройденных часов по каждому предмету .У меня сейчас с этим большая проблема , свой диплом я получала несколько лет назад, когда часы не проставлялись и сейчас все это восстановить очень сложно. Я об этом уже спрашивала в другом разделе , но так никто и не ответил на этот вопрос.
Григорий, может быть Вы в курсе , нужно ли будет предъявлять при устройстве на работу это приложение с указанием часов или достаточно просто оценок по предметам или небольшие фирмы, вообще, не проверяют дипломы.

Hi Diana,
What I meant by "russian" company was really a russian - speaking company. I live in San Francisco, there're a lot of companies here founded by former russian immigrants. It's not a rule of any kind, but seems that russian people tend to hire other russians. So it's not hard to find companies where most of employess are russian-speaking. In all other regards those companies are as american as others here. So you won't need to remember russian standards of bookeeping.
Evaluation of diploma may not be necessary at all - you'll probably be asked if you have any degree - and that'll be it. You'll say "yes" and that should be enough. I certainly wouldn't spend time or money on evaluation until it's clear I need it.
Again, in my personal opinion, bookeeping is very easy here, and chances are you'll have no problem whatsoever learning it. Bookeeping here is designed to provide information for decision-making, not for tax purposes, as in Russia. Preparation of tax returns is done by a third-party professionals, you won't be dealing with it at all. I'd recommend that upon arrival here you: a) start looking for job (or internship) right away and b) get the easierst bookkeeping "Learn-It-Yourself" course and read through it. Do not let thoughts that you "don't know american standards" or "need to learn a lot more first" stop you from looking for a job. Start going to interviews, that'd be a great school for you. Even if thay don't hire you right away, you'll get an understanding how you may want to change your resume, or whart other book you may want to read.....

You can find all information on how to become a CPA on the site of the California Board of Accountancy - http://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/
About finding an internship - just look around. Craigslist, Monster and other similar sites could probably help, newspaper ads..... you name it. I don't know any special magic way to get a job or an intership, except actually starting sending out applications....

Здравствуйте, Алена.
К сожалению, я не знаю чем я могу Вам помочь , я уехала в Америку к своему жениху и потом вышла замуж за него. И моей целью не было во что бы ни стало приехать сюда , просто так сложились обстоятельства. А вот какой путь выберите Вы я не знаю.
