J-1 with subject to 2 year home residence |

I remained here after a business exchange program sponsored by US Department of State through Center for Citizens Initiative and Rotary USA with visa type J-1 with subject to 2 year home residence. I was explained that the only choice I have in this situation to stay in the US is to apply for assulym and during its consideration get married to an american citizen. Is this correct? Are there any other ways to stay here legally? Thank you.

You can apply for asylum (if other circumstances are fitting), but it is not necessary to get married. You can call me for free consultation after July 15, when I will be back from Europe.
Sincerely, Lev Kobrin.
