  Boston
Hi, thank you in advance for answering to my question. My brother is trying to come to the US this summer through "Work and Travel USA" program. He already has a job lined up, but we have a problem: his sister (me) has been living in the US illigaly for the past 4 years. I came here with J-1 visa (au pair), but ended up staying when the visa expired. I am now engaged to an American citizen, and we are getting married in May. My question is what should he write in the application where they ask about relatives in the united states? My lawyer told me to write "waiting for status adjustment", and if they ask him on the interview just say that I'm getting married and waiting to become a us legal permanent resident, but "waiting for status adjustment is just a prettier term for "illigal immigrant", and they probably won't give him a visa if he writes that. Do they have any way of checking my status? Should he just write that I'm already married, and waiting for a Green Card? All his friends are telling him to just say that he doesn't have any relatives in the US, but don't they have me on record somewhere, and if they find out he might get banned from here for life? Do they know that I never came back? (I was supposed to come back in November 1999) If he gets refused a visa this time, it will be much more difficult to get it the next time, so that's almost like getting banned for life anyway, so he just might as well lie? Please help, I don't know what to tell him... Oh, just so you know, my brother is definately NOT staying here after his visa expires, he wants to live in Estonia. (that's where he lives now.) Thank you very much, Ksenia.
