For those not living in the U.S. Mortgages for foreign nationals
Mark 2004
Hello. I would like to find out if someone can buy a home if he is not living in the states. Can he get a mortgage? Can he have more than one home here?
RomanS 2004
Actually, you can. Mortgages for foreign nationals are quite common. Be prepared to put some 20% for conventional rates. There are no limits to how many homes a foreign national can own here as far as we know.

Theoretically-agree, but practically it is quiet difficult lately. They made it rather complicated for foreigners to deal with banking here, even to open a simple bank account. Especially it is difficult for such "third world country" as Russia. I think it is connected with recent terroristic events and directed to prevent money smuggling and laundry.

Well, Vlada, this time you're just a little off :)
It is easy to obtain a mortgage when you're a foreign national - almost as easy as if you lived here. There are lenders who are positioned to do a very simple and smooth transaction. These would not be your local banks though.

I won't argue at this point as I didn't deal with this personally. That was just my personal vision. And, of course, I do business with local banks. I'm glad we have you here.
