There are several steps you have to consider. First of all you have to take 24 hours of continuing education in RE. Contact Spencer School of RE for example - Dr. Porter of Newton will be happy to assist you. Or Lee School of RE in Brookline and make your classes complete. With your graduation from the school you will receive a booklette with instructions of how to be prepared for the test examination. You have to fill out three references of good morality standing, for example. After that please spend a good amount of time practicing. Without any practice I would not recommend to go for your test. Then you have to schedule your test with ASI in Woburn. Be prepared to bring a money order amount of $110 first time and $65 for any reexamination. There are two tests you have to pass in order to obtain your RE Sales Agent lisence: General and Massachusetts (or other state). For General test you have to answer 85 Questions and pass score is 70%. For MA there are 30 questions and score is 70% also. Exam is a multiple choice 4 hours in length without any discount for your language dicability. Many questions are Special RE Math related. For example Tax calculation, or Closing Cost calculation. Very imprortant to know RE Low terminology and be prepared for tricky questions. That is why I strongly recommend practice before you go there. Hope it helps not only you but everyone who wants to start a new carrier in RE. If you have any questions - fill free to contact me directly - anvegger@yahoo.com Thanks, Andrey Vegger of Prudential

There are a few, in MA. If you have a lot of time, you can take a usual course, which will last approximately, 3 months, once a week. Or, I would recommend a video class, that you'll take at your own path. Some people fulfill the requirement in 2-4 days, for others -it takes months or years. You can find all info on internet, just type in yahoo search real estate license in MA. There is a 26-hours course requirement, after which, you'll be able to pass an exam and receive a license. Overall, if everything goes well, you'll get your licence under $500. But there are also post-costs of obtaining some other permissions, and also, advertising and client search is only on you. As far as I know, to get what people think Real Estate Sales Person make, you'll need at least 5 years. Life is not that easy, even if you don't have to obtain a college degree... Pervoklashka

Not always true however. I have an example from my office in Brookline: The guy never got his degree. Bu he is absolutely amaising salesperson. He has got his license three months ago and now he is one of the multimillion dollar producers in the industry. He has no idea how computer works. He used to be a pastry chief - very charming and easy going guy. And he is naturally born sales agent. It took him long time to pass the RE exam. But now I am very impressed with his skills!!! I am not a sales person at all. I would consider myself a RE Scientist. And even with my title I have to have a RE license. By the way if you are a board certified law professional (a lawyer)- you don't have to have your RE license in order to conduct RE transactions. In all other cases - you have to have at least RE Sales Agent license to get paid. --Andrey Vegger

Andrey, Why is it so nice to talk to you by phone and so uneasy on internet? I am not saying that degree matters in terms of being a good salesperson? I feel that some people are born to be in such a field! My point was that even when you know that the study will take away only a couple of months of your life, instead of four and more years, it's still not that easy to become a leader. An average process of being known as leader on your market, and not only a leader, but a person with really good potencial and capital built on his occupation, takes you a lot longer. She wants to be a salesperson, well. But one of the main functions of any sales people is to be able research and find some answers. And believe it or not, it's very easy to find the info she asks about on internet. Btw, if you are a lawer, you still need to have RE license, but the difference is that you don't need to pass an exam. Here is a paragraph from http://www.state.ma.us/reg/boards/re/faq.htm#03 (Board of RE) I am an Attorney, How do I become licensed? If you are a Massachusetts attorney in good standing, Massachusetts law provides that the Board may issue you a Broker license without examination, experience as a Salesperson or pre-license education. You do, however, have to file an application. To obtain an application you must first be qualified. Therefore, to start the process, submit an original certified record of good standing issued by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court together with a check or money order payable to Comm. of MA in the amount of $30.00 and a cover letter that includes your mailing address and date of birth. After the Board reviews your standing an application will be sent. Attorneys from other jurisdictions must follow the regular course for licensure. -

Pervoklashechka, You are absolutely right. I take step back and have to admit that my statement was incorrect. Lawers have to have their license in order to get paid also. But I am sure ther is no reason to blame me for my uneasyness on the net, don't you think? I am easy going guy regardless of the media. If I am wrong - I accept it. I know for sure -nobody's perfect . Sorry if I make you feel bad. Please please please do not turn me down. You will see - I might do good sometime :)
